i’m hurt and i guess that’s ok

A man, most possibly in his early 50s, slaps his mother as they’re seemingly having a normal conversation right outside a home. Following which she falls on the road whilst the man, I’m not able to call him that woman’s son you see, he continues to stand at the side. Another woman who was standing right beside quickly goes ahead and tries to pick the lady up. And the shared CCTV footage ends here. The title of this clip on the source of my information is self-explanatory that the lady breathed her last right there on the spot.

About 3 minutes after that, I pick up my phone and I call my father to share with him what I just watched. I get teary eyed and ask him why did that happen, papa? I hear him back and he says sometimes we do not ask why, sometimes there is no asking. He politely tells me to allow myself to feel as hurt; and that it is indeed a shameful and a sad thing to have happened. He goes silent for a few seconds. I am waiting for him to speak as I rewind the clip in my head. And then he goes ahead and says that sometimes you feel hurt and helpless, and it is okay to not feel like you’re in control of something. It’s important to feel hurt by things that are meant to hurt. It is, in a way, rather problematic if sad things don’t move you… anymore. It is needed of us that we do not invalidate sadness or hurtfulness. Or any emotions that come to us.

Emotional self-regulation is important! It has, in my understanding, now become a key value without which all we are doing is making ourselves more vulnerable with regard to what lies ahead. No matter how prepared we feel with our devices and insurances.

Take care, you!

Dear sir/maam, thanks for sharing how you felt about it. Well, there are many ways to express ourselves and our emotions. It’s not the best scenario to not have anyone caring about us but we can always cover up for that by ensuring we are self-compassionate and self-loving. Many things like engaging in art, writing diary any fun activities for that matter – do try. Take care! 😋🌼

Sat Sri Akaal Datar. You said it very right! Increasing lack of our inherent values is destroying humankind gradually. We need to reconsider our choices and our priorities.
